Silicon rubber tamper mats will protect both the counter top and the espresso portafilter spout. Professional tamper mats for the cafe or restaurant are thicker and will put up with more wear and tear. Flat tamer mats have a space to hold the tamper in place and hold the portafilter in place.

The outer edge is 6mm thick, so the coffee remnants do not slip from the mat and your work surface remains clean. In one corner is a round recess for your tamper.
